Get to Know: Farm Rio
For me, fashion has become that ex who always ordered the 100-year-old whiskey and forgot his wallet. (Oh and he tried to French kiss my sister once too.) Nope. When a simple day dress starts at $500, I'm priced out--and pissed off. Anyone else feel like fashion is having the last laugh when we're asked to spend $6,200 on a padded "couture-like" coat filled with polyester? (Oh and who else is defaulting on her mortgage for the $1,800 Balenciaga x Lay's Chips clutch?) Meet my new BFF or "best fashion friend," Farm Rio. Launched at an indie fashion flea market in Rio in 1997 by two friends, this Brazilian label serves up vibrant prints and flattering silhouettes at fair cost--dresses start at $225. I own this one and it has pockets! I also picked up this vibrant bodysuit with puffed shoulders ($130) and get at least five compliments every time I wear it. Got my eye on this black/floral crochet-edged dress ($260) for holiday parties. Hey, let's support designers who respect our bottom lines, ladies.
