Enough With The "Late Bloomer" Crap

Pretty Ripe | Volume 24 - Enough With The "Late Bloomer" Crap
I do feel like so many doors are open to me now. And it started for me in my 40s …
— Tracee Ellis Ross

The idea that success after 40 makes you a "late bloomer" is just stupid. That moniker belittles the two-plus decades of adult development leading up to your achievement. It also implies, "Congrats, but what the hell took you so long?" In fact, it's the early achievers who often flame out or fail to hone the skills needed to overcome struggle. Did you know that the average age of a startup founder is 45? And according to a recent MIT study, a 50-year-old entrepreneur is twice as likely to make bank than a 30-year-old. Mark Zuckerberg once said, "Young people are just smarter." Suck it, Zuck. Having launched the brand PRETTY RIPE at 52, I'm ready to make him eat his hoodie. Be inspired, women. The future is wide open to you.
