Is A Chanel A Better Investment Than Art?

Pretty Ripe | Volume 37 - Is A Chanel A Better Investment Than Art?

For a splurge, I will always pick a painting or photograph over a purse. However, who doesn't love a beautifully crafted bag that makes you want to dig for your keys? If you're considering an investment piece, know that some bags depreciate in value after purchase, while others actually become more valuable. For instance, if you bought a Chanel flap bag in 2011 for $1,600, you could sell it today for almost $5,000. Whoa! Birkins appreciate too, if you're looking to drop $10K on some arm candy. Rebag, the luxe consignment site, offers a cool new app called Clair AI that will estimate the value of a purse if you take a snapshot and upload it--I tried it on a Chloe Faye bag I purchased a few years ago. You might want to check the resale value of a purse before you blow the bank. Or just buy some art.
