Shut Up About Turks and Caicos Already!
Let me get this straight: we're in a pandemic, people die every hour, I eat ground turkey five nights a week---and you're in Turks and Caicos, frolicking on a damn yacht? Oh and posting pictures of your glistening booty on Insta? Everyone rich and famous on that archipelago like the Kardashian clan and J.Lo and Ludacris should look up "empathy" in the dictionary. And flip to "discretion" while they're at it.
Empathy is, in essence, the care and concern for others. It's pretty much essential to humanity or our collective being. Too bad it's on the decline. According to a study of American college students, levels of empathy fell by 48% between 1979 and 2009. Technology isn't helping our u-turn into narcissism either. You don't come off as concerned about Covid (or its wrath) when you're chugging tequila from a gold-plated coconut shell in the Caribbean on social media. Right now, empathy is more important than ever. A Stanford study shows that in times of stress, we need empathetic friends. Let's look out for each other, people. It's really not that hard to do.
