Ladies: Let's Get Smart About Our Money
Does the idea of managing your money make you queasy? A 2020 study from U.S. Bank reveals more women than men associate financial planning with stress and anxiety. I get it. Figuring out a 401(k) or an IRA can be overwhelming. But the reality is this: we women own 51% of all U.S. private wealth and yet a quarter of us don't feel financially prepared for our future. (Myself, included.) The irony is women are actually better than men at playing the stock market; read about it here in Forbes. Suck it, Gordon Gecko.
As a writer married to another writer, our finances fluctuate wildly and right about now, my bank account is very "bohemian." But next week, I'm seeing a financial planner because it's time for me to get my money--or lack thereof--in order and to outline financial goals. I'm also taking advantage of free online courses from Black female-founded Clever Girl Finance; the podcast "So Money" with Farnoosh Torabi rocks too.
