Mare Made Us Feel "Okay" About Our Flaws

Pretty Ripe | Volume 25 - Mare Made Us Feel "Okay" About Our Flaws - Mare of Easttown

Maybe it was the brassy roots at half-mast. Or the plaid shirts that looked like they came out of a smelly duffel bag. Oh and don't forget the ruddy skin and wrinkles. Let's face it: we all watched Mare of Easttown, in part, because Kate Winslet played her as a middle aged woman unapologetically in crisis. She ate hoagies non-stop, drank more Rolling Rocks than a frat boy and uttered the words "I'm sorry" just a few scant times. Mare was a crappy friend, daughter, mother, one-night stand and colleague--but it was refreshing to see a female lead who didn't people please, caretake the wounded or smile and pretend that everything is "great." Sometimes, nothing is great and you're incapable of being a superwoman--and that's okay. Check out this refreshing interview with Winslet in The New York Times.
